Mason, an educationist and a visionary. The Department of Computer Science was one of the first in the University of Madras to offer B.Sc. Computer Science in the aided stream in 1987, to empower young women for the digital era. The Department offers a well balanced curriculum consisting of hardware, software and application oriented courses. The syllabus is revised at regular intervals to keep pace with recent advancements in technology.
The subject of Psychology is both interesting and valuable. Psychology is a tremendously diverse field-psychologists specialise in many different aspects of behaviour and cognition. Psychology embodies not only a body of knowledge but is also a way of looking at and understanding the world around us.
M.Sc. Applied Psychology is offered with two specialisations- Counselling & Psychotherapy and Organisational Behaviour. The programme balances theoretical understanding, applied knowledge and relevant skill building. Students apply classroom learning through internships, projects and case studies in schools, hospitals and organisations.
The Department of Psychology gained the status of a research department in 2002, with the introduction of the M.Phil. programme. The M.Phil. programme focusses on developing a strong research culture where culturally relevant and ethically validated research is carried out in both basic and applied aspects of Psychology.
The Department commenced the Ph.D. programme (part-time and full-time) in 2005, under the leadership of Dr. Sheela Julius, former Head of the Department.
The Department of Languages was established in 1998 with the commencement of the Self-Financed stream of the college and was bifurcated on October 1, 2014. It offers Hindi and French as Part I Languages for all I UG programs and for II B.A. and B.Sc. programs. Additionally, these languages are offered as Non-Major Electives for UG programs and as Skill-Based courses for PG programs.
The Department of Tamil (Shift-II) was started in 1998. The Tamil Department offers Tamil to all the first year UG students and second year B.A (Corporate Economics) and B.Sc (Visual Communication & Psychology) students under Part I. Under Part IV, NME courses are offered by the Department. From the year 2017 onwards Skill Based Courses (Tamil Soft Skill – Basic, Tamil Soft Skill – Advanced, Tourism in Tamil, Tourism and Tamil Culture, Folklore- I, Folklore- II) are offered for postgraduate students. The Tamil Department has two full time staff and four guest lecturers.
The M.A. Degree programme in English was started in the year 2013. In keeping with the vision of the college, the PG Department of English aims at providing relevant education to students and attempts to enhance analytical and critical thinking skills among students. The Department offers foundational English courses and skill based courses for the first and second year undergraduate students of other departments. Foundational English courses are designed keeping in mind the varied levels of language competency of the students.

The Department of Management Studies was established in 2007 and offers a two-year Postgraduate Degree in Human Resource Management (HRM) with an intake of 40 students. It is offered to all streams of students irrespective of their subject specialisation. Information Technology is an intensive, practice oriented course. The Department of Corporate Economics offers a globally relevant and locally beneficial education in Economics. In the year 2003, the Department was started with the objective to impart media education to students and to meet the demands of the digital era. Under Autonomy, the Department introduced innovative, need-based courses that help students to get hands-on experience with a focus on blending art and technology to communicate ideas and information.

For the past three years the Department has also collaborated with International Institutions like National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taiwan and Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan for research and internship training programmes and a few students have undergone funded internship training programmes in renowned Institutions in India as well.

Starting with 16 students in its first year, in the last two decades the Department has successfully graduated 18 batches of postgraduate students. The present student strength is 26 per batch. There are several employment opportunities and after successful completion of M.Sc Data Science students can employed directly in companies as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, Machine Learning Scientist, Applications Architect, Enterprise Architect, Data Architect, and Data Engineer.
The Department of Social Work (MSW) is set to commence in 2024 (subject to University approval). This two-year program, open to students from all academic backgrounds, offers specializations in Medical and Psychiatry, and Community Development. The course emphasizes both practical and theoretical training, featuring weekly fieldwork with diverse communities, rural camps for group living practice in the first year, and study tours in the second year for cultural adaptation. Observation visits to NGOs, medical settings, and industries expand the students' understanding of various specializations. The program also focuses on personal development through practical skill laboratories and fine arts training, and provides hands-on research training. Upon completion, students undertake internships and block placements, gaining experience in at least five different settings each semester, making placement an integral part of the curriculum.
