About us

The M.A. Degree programme in English was started in the year 2013. In keeping with the vision of the college, the PG Department of English aims at providing relevant education to students and attempts to enhance analytical and critical thinking skills among students. The Department offers foundational English courses and skill based courses for the first and second year undergraduate students of other departments. Foundational English courses are designed keeping in mind the varied levels of language competency of the students.

The General English Papers under Part II at the UG level are spread over the first two semesters for the B. Com., BBA, BCA, M.Sc., CST with B.Sc., Visual Communications and B.A., Corporate Economics students studying the same for four semesters. The Department offers English for Communication at the Workplace to all second year UG students with emphasis on written and oral communication skills.

The Postgraduate programme offered by the Department of English aims at providing a holistic view of literature and literary studies. In order to introduce the students to socially and culturally relevant contexts, the Department periodically revises the syllabus based on emerging trends in the social, political and literary discourses.

Courses like Subalternity in India, Gender Studies, Eco literature, Folklore and literature, Indigenous Literature and New Literatures keep students updated with the shifting theoretical standpoints in these fields. Apart from the courses in literature, English Language Teaching is offered as an elective paper for students who are interested in taking up a career-oriented specialised course. Students are also required to do an internship at the end of their second semester. Post Graduate Students of other disciplines are offered skill- based papers like Essentials of Spoken and Presentation skills, Writing for Official Communication and Research to enhance their soft skills pertinent to employability. Theatre for Communication Skills is a unique course designed for students of other disciplines to help them enhance their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

The Department also strives to familiarise its staff and students with latest developments in the field by organising guest lectures, workshops, student seminars and Faculty Development programmes on a regular basis.
