About us
Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field constantly evolving, requiring sustained rediscovering and reinventing keeping in mind the challenges in life sciences. As an academic and research department, The Postgraduate and Research Department of Biotechnology should effectively enhance student’s academic and research pursuit through the rich experience of the faculty, and state of the art facilities of the Institution.
VISION: To promote, support and facilitate the development of Biotechnology and nurture biotechnologists with the potential to innovate and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of society and the environment.
MISSION:
- to nurture competent Biotechnologists through Postgraduate programmes (M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D)
- to provide an excellent academic base, research culture and infrastructure
- to promote multidisciplinary research
- to instill a spirit of innovation and creativity in young minds with a sound research aptitude.
- to publish papers in high quality journals of international repute
- to turn out confident women who will be future stakeholders for the growth of the nation.
The Research Department of Biotechnology was introduced in the year 2000. From its inception, the Department has been imparting high-level knowledge in various spheres of Biotechnology apart from rendering value-based education. The State of the Art Laboratories, Hi-tech Educational Kits and need-based information are the highlights of the Department. The Postgraduate students are trained meticulously so as to have a full-fledged kaleidoscopic knowledge in all areas of Biotechnology, which is a multifaceted subject. From the academic year 2009, the Department has become a research department, offering M.Phil Biotechnology and in 2014, the department was recognised by the University of Madras as a Research Department. Presently, there are 15 research scholars under two recognised guides pursuing research in various fields of Biotechnology.
