M.A. Communication

About us

Women’s Christian College was the first to start M.A. Communication in 1997, the first of its kind in city colleges. The two year postgraduate course provides advanced level training in Print, Broadcast, Advertising and Public Relations. The curriculum also includes Film Studies, Social Media Dynamics and Online Journal. The Department is equipped to train students in media technologies. Workshops and guest lectures are organised at regular intervals for Photography, Advertising, Radio Production, Television Production, Public Relations, Web Designing and Filmmaking.

The course provides opportunities for internship with various media organisations. The course equips the students with skill sets that would successfully launch them in the ever growing media industry. From newspapers to television channels to websites and radio stations, promising career opportunities are available after the completion of the course. The curriculum also includes Advertising, Public Relations and New Media.

The curricula of several courses of the programme have been designed keeping in mind the demands of media industries and organisations at the national and global level. For example, the course Reporting and Editing involves a unit comprising nationally and internationally relevant topics such as global journalism, covering international conflicts, foreign affairs diplomacy stories and defence journalism. Development journalism covering social and economic depravity, environment related issues and gender sensitivity are also covered.  A new course on Social Media Dynamics was introduced in 2017 keeping in tune with the changing trends of the industry.

The Department has added a course on Media Economics to enable students to develop an understanding of media organisation, ownership structure, and the economic logic governing its operations.
