M.Sc. Applied Psychology

About us

M.Sc. Applied Psychology is offered with two specialisations- Counselling & Psychotherapy and Organisational Behaviour. The programme balances theoretical understanding, applied knowledge and relevant skill building. Students apply classroom learning through internships, projects and case studies in schools, hospitals and organisations.

Skill based courses are offered in Counselling and Behaviour Modification. The students are trained to administer various psychological tests and are encouraged to use the skills learnt by conducting projects, workshops and seminars. Experts in the field are invited for lecturers, which enable the students to gain a broader perspective on the scope of the subject.

Research experience is gained through conducting empirical research work as part of thesis, in the final semester. Workshops are held in research methodology and SPSS, to equip students with latest advances in the field. The areas of research work carried out by students include a wide array of fields such as Developmental, Clinical, Social and Counselling Psychology. Students are encouraged to present papers at conferences and publish their research work in journals.

The postgraduate program has three broad outcomes, namely, preparing students to move on to higher education and research, training them to work as psychologists/counsellors and offer psychological services, and equipping them to work in fields allied to psychology such as social work, human resource, public health and so on. Students of the Department are employed as Psychologists, Counsellors, Consultants, Assistant Professors, Facilitators, Trainers , Entrepreneurs and so on.
