Institution's Innovation Council

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Women’s Christian College has been established to foster a culture of innovation among students across diverse disciplines. In alignment with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which has mandated the establishment of Innovation Cells in Higher Education Institutions, the IIC is dedicated to encouraging, inspiring, and nurturing young minds. It provides support for students to develop innovative ideas and transform them into functional prototypes. Through a structured and multifaceted approach, the IIC aims to cultivate an ecosystem that promotes innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution.

Functions

    • Organize and implement innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities as prescribed by the Central MIC within a defined timeframe.
    • Identify and recognize innovative initiatives while showcasing success stories to inspire others.
    • Conduct periodic workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals, while establishing a robust mentorship network for student innovators.
    • Collaborate with peer institutions and national entrepreneurship development organizations to enhance knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain an institutional innovation portal to showcase groundbreaking projects undertaken by faculty and students.
    • Host Hackathons, idea competitions, mini-challenges, and similar events to foster creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking.

E – Store 

The E-Store of Women’s Christian College (WCC) was inaugurated to promote student entrepreneurship by Dr. Lillian I. Jasper, Principal, WCC, Chennai – 06. Operational on campus since December 5, 2019, the store is managed by student entrepreneurs. The inauguration commenced with a prayer song by student representatives from the Entrepreneurship Cell, followed by a prayer led by Dr. Betsy Selvakumar, Vice Principal, WCC. The official unveiling of the store and signboard was conducted by Dr. Lillian I. Jasper and Dr. Betsy Selvakumar in the presence of Heads of Departments, Deans, IIC members, faculty, and student representatives.

The E-Store aims to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills, including purchasing, sales, and marketing. It serves as a campus retail outlet, providing students with stationery, toiletries, decorative items, and other essentials. Additionally, the store serves as an incubator for student-led business ventures, fostering innovation and entrepreneurial growth within the institution.

The Innovation Club at Women’s Christian College (WCC) fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving among students. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on activities. The club organizes hackathons, idea challenges, and prototype development programs to inspire innovation. By partnering with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and industry experts, it provides access to resources, funding, and incubation support. Through networking events, students engage with innovators and industry leaders, bridging the gap between academics and real-world solutions. The club nurtures a culture of innovation, empowering students to become future entrepreneurs and change-makers.

The E-cell organizes business plan competitions, startup incubation programs, and industry interactions to support student-led enterprises. It collaborates with external organizations for funding and incubation support while promoting social entrepreneurship. By nurturing creativity, leadership, and problem-solving skills, the E-Cell empowers students to become job creators and contributes to a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem at WCC

The Rural Entrepreneurship Development (RED) initiative at Women’s Christian College (WCC) fosters an entrepreneurial mindset among students from semi-urban and rural backgrounds. It empowers them to pursue entrepreneurship, driving employment, income generation, and community development. RED minimizes migration by equipping students with skills to launch sustainable ventures in rural areas. Through targeted initiatives, it creates a supportive ecosystem for innovation, economic growth, and social impact.

IPR Cell

The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell at Women’s Christian College (WCC) was established on January 29, 2024, at the MM Block. As the 9th IPR Cell in Chennai and the 37th in Tamil Nadu, it promotes awareness of intellectual property among students and faculty. The cell conducts workshops and seminars while assisting faculty in filing patents, trademarks, and copyrights. It collaborates with industry experts to provide guidance on intellectual property protection. By fostering innovation and legal awareness, the cell supports research and entrepreneurship. Through its initiatives, the IPR Cell strengthens intellectual property practices within the institution.
