About us
The Department of Commerce with Computer Applications was started in the year 2009 with dedicated staff and 50 students. This programme offers specialisation in computer and business related courses as computers play a vital part in the recent and emerging fields.
The faculty in the Department inculcate a strong fundamental knowledge, provide hands on training in computers and motivate the students in various areas wherein the students gain practical exposure to all the related fields of commerce and computers.
Learner centric opportunities are provided to students for growth, development and further enhancement of their knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates can pursue higher studies namely MBA, MCA, M.Com, M.Com (CA), MA (HRM), CA and other professional courses.
Thus B.Com. (Computer Applications) equips the students to cope with the challenges in the industrial and business fields and to be at par with today’s fast moving world.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
Highlights
An “International Entrepreneurial Seminar (Start Up Spark ’23)” was organized on 16th September 2023. The entrepreneurial seminar featured prominent speakers from the business world from various industries including Asmitha (Asmitha Makeover Artistry), Niveatha (Chennai Surprise), Kripa Anne Peter (F&B Industry). Additionally, there was an informative online session led by Ugamoorthy (Chartered Accountant, Dubai). These experts shared their insights and experiences in entrepreneurship, offering valuable knowledge to aspiring students.
A workshop on the topic “Business Analysis Using Google Big Query, Google Sheets And Google Data Studio” was organized by the Department to help the students to use an essential skill set required for any analyst roles (Risk Analyst, Data Analyst, Financial Analyst, etc.) using three tools viz Google Big Query, Google Sheets and Google Data Studio on 6th,10th,23rd and 24th August 2022. Mr. Akshaay Pareekh, Head of Analyst, Wingman was the resource person.
Three days’ International online bridge course on the topic “Campus 2 Corporate” was organized for the shift II UG final year students by the Department on 24th, 27th and 29th July, 2021. 315 registered participants from all the departments within the college participated.
A Webinar was organized by the PG Department of Commerce and UG Department of Commerce (Computer Applications) on 1st June, 2020 on the topic “An overview on the Economic Implications and Employability in Current Pandemic Scenario”. Mr. Nandhakumar Varadharajan – Director, Finance & AMP ; Shared services, Thought Spot India (P) Ltd, was the resource person of the event. Participants gained insights on the economic stability and employability during and after the Pandemic.
A “Five days Workshop on Financial Modeling” conducted by IMS Pro School was organized for the final year students on 8th, 13th, 14th, 16th, and 19th of August 2019.
A “Five days Workshop on Employability Skills” conducted by Score Training Academy Pvt Limited was organized for the final year students on 26th, 28th, 29th, 30th August and 3rd September 2019.
As a part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Department, Alumnae Reunion and Inter Department Culturals were organised on 13th February, 2020. The Principal Dr. Lilian I Jasper headed the inauguration along with Dr. Uthira, Vice Principal, MOP Vaishnav College for Women as the chief guest for the event. The dignitaries released the second edition of the Department Magazine, “Xpressions-2020”. Around 85 alumnae from all batches participated in the event. They inspired the students with their knowledge and memories during their stay in WCC.
