B.Sc. Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics  was established in the year 1925, maintaining a high standard of education, promoting excellence and fostering critical thinking. 

The Department offers a variety of innovative courses in pure and applied Mathematics and in interdisciplinary streams, so that students have a sound foundation in the subject. The Department also offers Core Elective Courses in higher Mathematics and its Applications for students to pursue higher studies in the subject or change to related subjects.

Students are encouraged to learn through  Online Courses,  Self Study Courses and  Learner Designed Courses.

Motivated to reach out to society, students take up ‘Service Learning’, using innovative methods to teach Mathematical concepts to school children. 

The department started the P.G Department of Mathematics  in the year 2009. The department along with the PG department has been regularly organizing National and International Conferences from 2009 to update the knowledge of students and staff in the field of Mathematics and Computer Applications.

A Certificate course in Quantitative Aptitude is organized for students of all major subjects. This course equips the students to appear for competitive examinations involving Quantitative techniques.

The Mathematics Association serves as a forum for students to develop their quest for knowledge beyond the curriculum .

At the National level,  students of the department have been regularly part of Summer Programmes conducted by NBHM. An Appreciation Course in Mathematics was conducted at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in 2010, with WCC,Chennai as the Nodal Institution.

Study Trips to the Planetarium, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Anna Library and Indian Statistical Institute are regularly organized by the Department to expose students on the emerging trends in Mathematics and related research areas. 

Over the years, the Alumnae of the Department have made an impact in the society through their contributions in various fields such as research, teaching and industry.
