About the tree |
Its fruit (Jamun) can be eaten raw or made into jams, jellies, puddings etc. Certain properties of jamun have an anti-carcinogenic effect on organs. Jamun is rich in vitamins A & C which detoxifies our body and is also used to treat digestive disorders like diarrhoea, dysentery, vomiting and irritable bowel syndrome. A coffee-like beverage is made from the dried and ground up seeds. The seeds are used to reduce blood sugar levels. The bark is used as a gargle to strengthen gums, treat mouth ulcers etc.
