Mango, the national fruit of India, Philippines and Pakistan, is among the most economically and culturally important tropical fruits, especially in Asia. The unripe fruits are sour but edible and are used in curries, pickles and preserves. The fruit pulp is used in the preparation of juices, sweets, halwa, milk shakes and ice-creams. There are hundreds of mango cultivars throughout the world. The wood is used for musical instruments such as ukuleles, plywood and low-cost furniture. |
