About the tree In Indian cuisine, the unripe fruit of this tree is used in cooking sambals and curries. A poultice made using the leaves can be applied to wounds and also to relieve headaches. In India, this plant is extensively cultivated for extracting Morindone dye which is sold under the trade name “Suranji”. In shades of red, chocolate or purple, Morindone can be used for dyeing of cotton, silk and wool.
