The Master of Science in Information Technology (M.Sc. IT) program, introduced in 2001, is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the fast-paced world of technology. Tailored for both computing and non-computing graduates, this program offers a unique blend of theory and practical experience. The students of the Department of Information Technology at WCC, in collaboration with the WeJump community, actively promote digital and technological skills among underprivileged school students. This partnership emphasizes their commitment to fostering a generation equipped with essential digital competencies.
RENAISSANCE:
Renaissance, the association of the PG Department of Computer Science and Technology, Information Technology & Data Science has made significant strides in preparing students for their transition into the corporate world. It has successfully achieved this goal by offering a variety of technical and non-technical activities throughout the academic year to challenge and engage students.
A short-term certificate course on “Robotics-Mark I” was conducted for students across all departments from August 12 to September 9, 2024. The “Mark I” in robotics typically signifies the initial prototype of a robotic system, aimed at showcasing fundamental capabilities. This preliminary version is used to test core concepts such as movement, automation, and control mechanisms.
The Department of Information Technology, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Women’s Christian College, conducted the Internal Level Smart India Hackathon on 23rd August 2024, at the college premises.
An industrial visit to Surinova, a leading robotics company on 14th August,2024 provided students with practical insights into the field. Technical engineers showcased the latest robotic models, their applications, and benefits, including live demonstrations of various systems in real-world scenarios.
Dr. Lilian I Jasper, the Principal, distributed two laptops to Velankanni Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ashok Nagar and Bentinck Higher Secondary School, Vepery on August 9th 2024. This generous contribution was a part of the WeJump’s effort to support educational initiatives and enhance the learning experience for students at these schools.
The International WeJump Open Workshop (WOW) was organised by the Women’s Christian College in collaboration with WeJump Community, Christ University, and Seoul Women’s University, South Korea, from July 26 to July 29, 2024, at Christ University in Bangalore. This event provided students with a valuable experience, enabling them to interact with peers from various regions, exchange ideas, and explore new learning methodologies. It actively promotes digital and technological skills among underprivileged school students, reflecting a commitment to equipping the next generation with essential digital competencies.
The Department of Information Technology organized a short-term certificate course on “Designing Tools” for undergraduate students from all departments, held from July 8, 2024, to July 25, 2024. The course focused on equipping students with essential skills in graphic design and animation, covering tools such as Canva, GIMP, Adobe Flash, and Photopea.
Akshitha N. and Winova Hannah Moore from the Department of Information Technology participated in the UOC Women Empowerment Mobility Inbound Program, held at the University of CyberJaya in Malaysia from April 17th to 30th, 2024.
On February 23, 2024, a workshop titled “Reaching the Community through Technology for a Digital Transformation” was held at Bertha Corfield Hall , featuring Dr.Guydeuk Yeon Professor of Economics, Christ University and Dr.D.Doreen Robin Founder and Director, CIRF as the guest speaker. This event was jointly organised by the Department of Information Technology and the Department of Commerce. The Workshop’s primary goal was to provide the students with an insightful overview of how to Reach the community through technology for a digital transformation in society.
Compsync ’24, an intercollegiate fest hosted by the Department of Computer Science (IT, CST, CS, BCA, and DS), took place on 6th February 2024. The event offered students from various colleges a platform to interact and build connections that could lead to future academic or professional collaborations.
On September 11, 2023, an enlightening field trip to Farm Guru was orchestrated for I B.Sc IT and I M.Sc IT students. The primary goal was to provide invaluable insights into organic farming and emerging Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in agriculture.
A short-term certificate course on “Designing tools” was organized for the UG students of all departments from 24.07.2023 to 5.09.2023. The Course focusing on GIMP and Flash, was to empower students with essential skills in graphic design and simple animation. The course commenced with an in-depth introduction to GIMP, with a versatile graphic design software.
Compsync’23 was an intercollegiate festival, conducted by the Department of Computer Application, Information Technology, Computer Science and Technology on 21st February 2023. Compsync’23 aims to encourage students to participate and explore undiscovered facets of their personality by showcasing their talents in planning and preparing for various competitions.
A Robotics Workshop was conducted on February 18, 2023. The workshop aimed to provide hands-on experience and practical knowledge in the field of robotics. The team of Yagen Robotics assisted students in assembling the robot. It gave an insight about the robotics technology, including the mechanics of building and programming robots, and enhanced their understanding of the field.
“International Conference on Advancements in Intelligent Systems and Computing” took place on January 11th and 12th 2023. The conference proceedings were officially released by esteemed dignitaries, Thiru. T Mano Thangaraj, Minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Thiru. Robert Jerald Ravi, ITS, Chief Technology Officer, Government of Tamil Nadu. This event marked a significant platform for the exchange of ideas and advancements in the field of intelligent systems and computing on an international scale.
The Department of Information Technology for both UG and PG organized an Educational Trip to BITS Pilani Institute of Technology and Science, Hyderabad, for sixty students from 8th October 2022 to 10th October 2022.
“Alumni Reunion Program – 2022” took place on April 9, 2022, to celebrate and honor the distinguished past students of the Department of Information Technology at WCC. The event was designed to reconnect with alumni, celebrate their achievements, and acknowledge their success.
The Inter Collegiate Techno-Meet CompSync ’21 was conducted on 13th February 2021 by the students of the Computer Science Departments both from Shift I and Shift II through online. The main objective of this event is to provide a platform for the students to showcase their talent and exhibit their knowledge in the field of computer science thus improving the general knowledge of each participant.
Students from III B.Sc. IT and II M.Sc. IT completed a Service Learning Project in various schools, including Chennai Middle School, Kalyani Girls HSS, and others. The project involved community engagement and knowledge-sharing in schools across the region.

The conference served as a platform for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to share and discuss recent advancements in communications and computing technologies.
The “Aptitude Skill Development” course was introduced on August 19, 2019, and concluded on September 9, 2019, with a duration of 30 hours. A total of 28 students enrolled in the course. The Aptitude Skill Development course has been successfully conducted, with 28 students acquiring essential skills.
On 18th August 2018, the Department of Information Technology and Computer Science hosted “Synchronize 2018” Techno Fest, featuring tech events like Quiz, Paper Presentation, Debugging, Zebtech, Web Designing, Adzap, and Techno-art. Students from over 12 colleges actively participated in the fest.

From the 2nd May to 31st of May 2022, CDC-WCC organized a workshop with the primary objective of imparting basic computer knowledge to special children. Recognizing the significance of computer literacy in today’s digital world, the workshop aimed to equip these children with essential skills, fostering confidence in navigating the challenges of the digital era. Final year B.Sc IT students trained almost six children with basic computer skills.

The Department of Information Technology is committed to preparing students for successful IT careers, leading to impressive placement statistics and high percentages of students securing roles in top-tier companies from 2019 to 2024. Graduates receive competitive packages, with average salaries ranging from three to six lakhs per annum, reflecting industry recognition of their skills.
An industrial visit to Surinova, a leading robotics company on 14th August,2024 provided students with practical insights into the field. Technical engineers showcased the latest robotic models, their applications, and benefits, including live demonstrations of various systems in real-world scenarios.
The Department of Information Technology, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Women’s Christian College, conducted the Internal Level Smart India Hackathon on 23rd August 2024, at the college premises.
A short-term certificate course on “Robotics-Mark I” was conducted for students across all departments from August 12 to September 9, 2024. The “Mark I” in robotics typically signifies the initial prototype of a robotic system, aimed at showcasing fundamental capabilities. This preliminary version is used to test core concepts such as movement, automation, and control mechanisms.
2022-2023
A Robotics Workshop was conducted on February 18, 2023. The workshop aimed to provide hands-on experience and practical knowledge in the field of robotics. The team of Yagen Robotics assisted students in assembling the robot. It gave an insight about the robotics technology, including the mechanics of building and programming robots, and enhanced their understanding of the field.
Compsync’23 was an intercollegiate festival, conducted by the Department of Computer Application, Information Technology, Computer Science and Technology on 21st February 2023. Compsync’23 aims to encourage students to participate and explore undiscovered facets of their personality by showcasing their talents in planning and preparing for various competitions.
The Department of Information Technology for both UG and PG organized an Educational Trip to BITS Pilani Institute of Technology and Science, Hyderabad, for sixty students from 8th October 2022 to 10th October 2022.
The “International Conference on Advancements in Intelligent Systems and Computing” took place on January 11th and 12th 2023. The conference proceedings were officially released by esteemed dignitaries, Thiru. T Mano Thangaraj, Minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Thiru. Robert Jerald Ravi, ITS, Chief Technology Officer, Government of Tamil Nadu. This event marked a significant platform for the exchange of ideas and advancements in the field of intelligent systems and computing on an international scale.
2021-2022
“Alumni Reunion Program – 2022” took place on April 9, 2022, to celebrate and honor the distinguished past students of the Department of Information Technology at WCC. The event was designed to reconnect with alumni, celebrate their achievements, and acknowledge their success.
From the 2nd May to 31st of May 2022, CDC-WCC organized a workshop with the primary objective of imparting basic computer knowledge to special children. Recognizing the significance of computer literacy in today’s digital world, the workshop aimed to equip these children with essential skills, fostering confidence in navigating the challenges of the digital era. Final year B.Sc IT students trained almost six children with basic computer skills.
2020-2021
The Inter Collegiate Techno-Meet CompSync ’21 was conducted on 13th February 2021 by the students of the Computer Science Departments both from Shift I and Shift II through online. The main objective of this event is to provide a platform for the students to showcase their talent and exhibit their knowledge in the field of computer science thus improving the general knowledge of each participant.
2019-2020
Students from III B.Sc. IT and II M.Sc. IT completed a Service Learning Project in various schools, including Chennai Middle School, Kalyani Girls HSS, and others. The project involved community engagement and knowledge-sharing in schools across the region.
Final-year B.Sc. IT students conducted Basic Computing Skills classes for disabled students at the Child Development Centre, focusing on Paint and MS Word applications.

The “Aptitude Skill Development” course was introduced on August 19, 2019, and concluded on September 9, 2019, with a duration of 30 hours. A total of 28 students enrolled in the course. The Aptitude Skill Development course has been successfully conducted, with 28 students acquiring essential skills.
The “International Conference on Recent Advances in Communications & Computing Technologies” was held from January 24th to January 25th, 2020, with an International scope. The conference served as a platform for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to share and discuss recent advancements in communications and computing technologies.
2018-2019
On 18th August 2018, the Department of Information Technology and Computer Science hosted “Synchronize 2018” Techno Fest, featuring tech events like Quiz, Paper Presentation, Debugging, Zebtech, Web Designing, Adzap, and Techno-art. Students from over 12 colleges actively participated in the fest.
