Department of Languages

The Department of Languages has been in existence since the inception of the College. The Department now comprises two languages – Hindi, an Indian language and one Foreign language – French. Hindi has been in the curriculum since 1938 and French which had been offered from 1927–1929 was added once again in 1946.

The Department prides itself on its unwavering commitment to enhancing learners’ prowess in the French language by fostering an immersive linguistic environment. Delving into the rich tapestry of the French-speaking world, our pedagogy magnifies various cultural nuances through the lens of authentic documents, mellifluous melodies, and evocative verse. Cinematic masterpieces grace our screens, inviting spirited dialogues on intricate plotlines and profound thematic explorations. Through the meticulous introduction of vocabulary and rudimentary grammatical structures, students embark on a comprehensive learning journey, honing their linguistic skills, literary understanding, and writing proficiency. Each semester’s curriculum is meticulously curated by our faculty, dedicated to imparting the art of French as a foreign language with steadfast dedication.

Hindi
The Department of Languages, Hindi, offers Part I Language for UG students, and NME (Paryatan Hindi and Prathamik Hindi) and SKB (Sambhashaneiya Hindi and Hindi Pravesh) for the II & III year Tamil and French students. 

The Hindi section of the Department of Languages, in its curriculum, focusses on providing students insights on life and society while teaching and inculcating social and moral values and the ideals of national integration and universal brotherhood among the student community. 

The Department also includes elements of translation in the curriculum to enhance the students’ writing skills and to equip them for careers in the Government and Non-Government sectors.
