B.A. English
About us
The Department of English, established in the year 1962, offers B.A. English and has 15 faculty members and 175 students as on date. With its objective to create and nurture intellectual curiosity, creative imagination and social consciousness, the Department offers a variety of courses with theoretical and practical components in English Language and Literature (both traditional and modern) Media Studies, Graphic Design & Layout, Personality Enrichment, and Theatre. The Department facilitates internships for all students in Semester VI in order to help them apply their theoretical learning in work environments. A time-tested and successful strategy adopted for teaching Part-II English from Semester I to Semester IV has been the skill-based methodology that focusses on the four skills of language learning: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing (LSRW). While Semesters I to III are designed according to the English language proficiency skills of the students, Semester IV from 2019 offers a wide range of courses in English from which students can choose an appropriate course according to their need and interest.
The Department designs its courses to prepare students for a wide range of careers including teaching, research, media, publishing, theatre, and human & natural resources management. Outside the curriculum, the Department also offers a value-added course in Business English, during the year, to impart transferable and life skills to students.
Students, after their completion of the course, pursue higher studies or opt for employment based on their interests developed during their course of study.
The co-curricular and extracurricular activities within the Department and outside offer students a wide range of learning equipping them with skills of original and independent thinking, decision making, team cohesion and management required for higher studies/employment.
