Welcome to Women’s Christian College, Chennai.
Women’s Christian College, Chennai placed first among all women’s colleges in South India by the MHRD in the NIRF rating in 2017 is known for its high standards of education and outstanding achievements in teaching-learning, research and extension activities. WCC was founded in 1915 by the combined effort of 12 Missionary Societies from Britain, Canada and the United States of America. The mission of the college is to provide “a complete, meaningful and relevant education to women so that they are intellectually well- trained, morally upright, socially aware and spiritually inspired.”
Autonomous since 1982, WCC is affiliated to the University of Madras and has been accredited by NAAC with an ‘A+’ Grade in 2019. The College was awarded the prestigious status of College with Potential for Excellence by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2016, a fitting testimony to the remarkable progress made in the last century.
The heritage building Doveton House, historic academic blocks, six residential halls and the multifacility Library enhance teaching-learning experience. Home to more than a 100 species of trees, both indigenous and exotic, the 20-acre green campus is a treasure-trove of diverse flora and fauna providing an ambience conducive to fostering holistic education. WCC offers a wide range of metacognitive and need-based programs at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research levels to women from national and regional communities and varied socio-economic backgrounds. The College designs its curriculum, administers examinations and evaluates its students efficiently. Offering its students the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), WCC caters to the wide range of interests among students. The Degree is conferred by the University of Madras.

Semester Abroad Program, Le Tourneau University, Texas, USA, Liverpool Hope University, UK and Trinity Western University, Canada, Short Term study abroad programs with University of Cyberjaya, Malaysia and Binary University, Malaysia are International programs introduced in the last decade. Candidates securing admission in WCC will be considered for transfer if they fulfill the requirements for the Program.
Instructions
- A candidate may apply for any number of programmes in the Aided or Self-Financed sections.
- Candidates applying for more than one degree programme should submit separate Application forms after making the necessary payments for each programme.
- Candidates must provide valid and active Email ID and mobile number.
- These should be the same for each of the programmes applied for.
Status of successful registration will be sent ONLY through the registered e-mail ID and mobile number. - SC/ST candidates are exempt from Application Fee.
Applications with incorrect information will be rejected.
Requests for change/correction in the Application Form shall not be entertained under any circumstances after submitting the application form.

Admission Procedure
- All the eligible applications will be arranged according to their merit under various categories mandated by the Tamilnadu Government (Open category/ BC/ MBC/DNC/ SC/ST) and sent to the respective Departments.
- Departments will select eligible candidates according to merit in various categories and send it to the Scrutiny Committee.
- Further checks on authenticity and eligibility will be done by a 3 to 4 member Scrutiny Committee comprising senior faculty from various departments and recommended to the Admission Officers.
- Admission Officers will check the format and send the selected lists for display in the online portal.
- Simultaneously candidates will receive SMS and email. Provisional Selection Notice can be downloaded from the candidate login in our college website. If the fee is not paid online within the stipulated date, the candidate will forfeit the seat. The seat will be allocated to the candidates in the next list.
- Students will have to report on the registration date for certificate verification with the documents mentioned in the Provisional Selection Notice.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Hostel Rules & Regulations
The Hostel functions on Christian principles of love, discipline, honour and service. The rules and regulations are generally conventional. The aim is to help young women learn to use the privileges of community living and to accept the restrictions and responsibilities of hostel life.
Admission
Limited hostel facility is available for bonafide students of the College.
Admission to the hostel is provisional and for one academic year only. Students are required to re-apply on payment of Rs.100/- at the end of the academic year, if they want accommodation for the next year.
The Principal has the right to refuse admission to any student who in her opinion is not considered suitable for admission either on medical grounds or for reasons of conduct. The Principal also reserves the right to refuse permission to students to continue in residence.
Fees
Fees payable at the time of admission – Rs.30,250/-
Resident students are required to pay Boarding, Establishment, Mess fees and Medical fees not later than the specified date. Thereafter a fine of Rs.5/- will be collected per day.
Note: –Students and their Parents/Guardians are required to make themselves fully conversant with the rules of the College given herein, as they are bound by them, and their signatures on the Agreement Form indicate that they agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel.
Rules
Every resident student who joins the hostel is expected to respect all the rules and regulations pertaining to attending classes, outings (weekends / day-outs), reporting when sick, use of mobile phones, time of leaving and return etc. Resident students indulging in non-conventional and non-traditional lifestyles will be asked to find alternative accommodation immediately.
Students are discouraged from bringing expensive jewellery, large amounts of cash and electrical gadgets including expensive mobile phones to the hostel.
Students in the I year of study will not be permitted to attend any class outside the campus, after / before regular class hours in college.
Absence from Class
Students are expected to attend classes regularly. Any irregularity will be dealt with severely.
Quiet Hours and Use of Mobile Phones
Students are expected to maintain silence during Study Hour between 08.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. and remain quiet from 11.00 p.m. on all week days. Disciplinary action will be initiated on those who disrupt or disturb this quiet time. Use of mobile phones during the Study Hour is strictly prohibited. (Parents / Guardians are requested to avoid calling their wards during this time). Mobile phones cannot be used after 11:00 pm
Outings
- Students can go out on Sundays between 7.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m with permission. The places out of bounds during such outings are beaches, bars, hotels, lodges, homestays and discotheques
They are allowed to spend three weekends/holidays per semester with their parents / local guardians. They should have written permission from their parents and should be picked up either by their parents or their Local Guardians after signing in the Register. It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure that their ward returns and reaches the hostel within the specified time.
- IT IS MANDATORY THAT THE PARENTS/LOCAL GUARDIAN SIGNS IN THE REGISTER FOR NIGHT-OUT PERMISSION.
- No student is permitted to leave campus after 06.00 p.m. If she has to take a late train / flight, she will have to stay with her Local Guardian after 06.00 p.m. and then proceed to her destination. Similarly the hostel gates will be opened only by 05.00 a.m. for a student returning to college. Arrangements should be made with the Local Guardian to ensure her safety in the event of an early morning flight / train.
- Residents are expected to return to the hostel on the day of reopening after long weekends, End of Semester Examinations, Christmas and Pongal holidays. A fine of Rs.500/- would be collected from defaulters on the first day and Rs.100/- each for the subsequent days missed. Parents are requested to respect the policies framed for residents and refrain from seeking permission to avail leave for their daughters.
- Students should return to hostel only on the day specified by the authorities. Newly admitted students should arrive at the hostel for admission on the working day prior to their date of admission
- Leaving the campus without permission from the Warden will lead to disciplinary action. Students resorting to such practices will be asked to vacate the hostel.
- Morning 7:30 am to 8:00 am (Shift II ), Evening 5:45 pm and 8:00 pm Roll-Calls are compulsory and absence without permission will be dealt with seriously. During the course of the year, if any student is found violating any of the rules, she will be expelled from the hostel and no appeal directly from her or others will be entertained.
Sundays
Sunday is observed as a day of rest and a day of worship. Visitors are not permitted on Sundays. All Christian students are expected to participate in the special Worship Service on Sundays at 6.00 p.m. and the morning or afternoon Chapel Services (07.45 a.m. or 12.15 p.m.)
Illness
The College has an Infirmary. There is a doctor available on campus on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30am to 2:30 pm. Students who are ill should shift to the College Infirmary and cannot choose to be in their rooms. Any discomfort or sickness has to be reported immediately to the Wardens. If hospital care is required, necessary arrangements will have to be made by the Local Guardians. It is the responsibility of the Local Guardian to take charge of the student within 30 minutes to one hour of being contacted at the instance of illness or other emergencies.
Dress Code
Students are expected to dress modestly and wear appropriate clothes to classes, the Chapel, Dining Hall and to the Canteen on Campus.
Bank Account
It is mandatory for students to open an account at the Indian Overseas Bank on campus and ensure that all bank transactions are executed through its Service Counter. Parents are advised to send money only in the form of Demand Draft or Mail Transfers.
Food Service
Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals will be served in the Dining Hall. Dividing system is followed for food expenses.
Reduction of Mess Charges
For a continuous absence of 15 days or more, with prior permission within a calendar month, a student will have to pay Rs.100/- per day which includes Electricity Charges.
Water
Water shortage is not unusual in the city of Chennai. Therefore, if necessary, water will be regulated to meet the minimum requirements of the college community. If the College has to buy water, the expenditure will be shared by all users.
During weekends students are not permitted to leave the City without written permission from the Dean of Residents or Principal.
As per Tamil Nadu Government guidelines strict action will be taken on students using tobacco products, liquor or narcotic substances.
Residents should accept all the rules, common norms of protocol and regulations that are laid down for them.
FOR PARENTS / LOCAL GUARDIANS
Visiting Days
Saturdays and Holidays 09.00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.
Parents / visitors must leave the campus by 05.00 p.m. after visiting their wards and visiting time should be strictly followed.
An Agreement Form will be given to the parents of the admitted candidates on the day of admission. This should be duly filled and returned. Residents will not be allowed to receive visitors or visit any home until the completed form is submitted.
Resident Students will be only permitted to visit the homes of the TWO different Local Guardians (not from the same family), whose names have been mentioned in the Agreement Form that has been duly vouched for by the Parent / Guardian and submitted directly to the Wardens.
Permission requests to attend functions / visit places outside Chennai should be written by the Parent or the Guardian and NOT by the student herself. If this rule is violated the student forfeits her place in the hostel and should vacate her room within 24 hours.
The Local guardians will be the first point of reference in case of an emergency. They will have to report immediately when contacted in an emergency.
Students once admitted into the hostels will not be permitted to vacate the hostel during the course of the year without paying the dues.
The hostel establishment charges will not be refunded.
