HABIT | It is an evergreen shrub or small tree with a thin,crooked stem. |
MORPHOLOGY | The large shiny leaves are deep green with a wavy leaf margin.The waxy blossoms are white five petaled pinwheels that are borne in small clusters called cymes on the stem tips.Fruit is an inconspicuous dry and hard pod called follicles.Plant exudes a milky latex when parts of it are broken. |
MEDICINAL USES | ● The wood is refrigerant. ● The roots are used in treatment of diarrhoea,hypertension,headache and scabies. ● An infusion of the leaves is used to treat influenza. ● The flowers,mixed with oil,are applied to sore eyes. ● The latex of the leaves is used as a cooling application for wounds to prevent inflammation. ● The roots,leaves and flowers are used in the treatment of snake and scorpion poisoning. |
