About us
The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2000, under the University of Madras, in pursuit of academic excellence. Starting with 16 students in its first year, in the last two decades the Department has successfully graduated 18 batches of postgraduate students. The present student strength is 26 per batch. The Department obtained autonomous status in the year 2005. The Department also got recognition to offer the M.Phil programme in 2009. Yet another milestone was achieved in 2014, when the Department was recognised by the University of Madras to offer the Ph.D programme (Full time & Part time). Presently, there are 15 research scholars under two recognised Ph.D guides pursuing research in various fields of Biotechnology.
