An erect, much branched, pungent odoured perennial herb with stems and branches subquadrangular, often tinged with purple somewhat woody at the base, softly, densely hairy.

MORPHOLOGY |
Holy basil is an erect, many-branched subshrub, 30–60 cm tall with hairy stems. Leaves are green or purple; they are simple, petioled, with an ovate, up to 5 cm long blade, which usually has a slightly toothed margin; they are strongly scented and have a decussate phyllotaxy. Tulsi is a branched, fragrant and erect herb having hair all over.
