An erect, everblooming, ornamental herb, with branched tap root system.

MORPHOLOGY |
Stems cylindrical, longitudinally ridged or narrowly winged, green or dark red, pubescent at least when young. Leaves opposite, borne on short petioles, 2.5-9.0 cm long, usually elliptical to obovate, green with paler veins. Stems and leaves usually with hairs. Flowers borne in leaf axils, either singly or paired on very short stalk.

- The alkaloids vinblastine and vincristine derived from leaves exhibit anti-cancer and anti-diabetic properties.
- It is used to heal wasp stings wounds.
- Periwinkle is also used for treating diarrhea, throat ailments, tonsillitis, chest pain, high blood pressure, sore throat, intestinal pain.
