About us
The Department commenced the Ph.D. programme (part-time and full-time) in 2005, under the leadership of Dr. Sheela Julius, former Head of the Department.
Totally, 9 students have completed their doctorates in the Psychology Department. 3 students were conferred their doctoral degree under the guidance of Dr. Sheela Julius. Subsequently, 6 students completed their doctoral degree under the guidance of Dr. Veena Easvaradoss, former Head of the Department.
Currently, Dr. M. Kanchana (Associate Professor and Head of the Department) and Dr. S. Usharani (Assistant Professor) are Research Guides of the Psychology Department.
The research scholars engage in independent research work with zeal and dedication. They actively assist the faculty in organising various events for the Department. Addressing the undergraduate and postgraduate students about their ongoing research, the research scholars educate as well as inspire the students to take up higher education. They also visit other institutions as Resource Persons to share their expertise.
Research scholars attend conferences, present papers and publish in reputed scientific journals. They have won laurels for the Department by winning ‘Best Paper’ awards. Workshops are being held periodically on current trends in Research methodology and SPSS.

FACILITIES
The Child Development Centre, a project of the Psychology Department caters to intellectually challenged children. This supports the following PG courses- Community Psychology, Psychological Testing and Counselling. CDC children enthusiastically participate and win prizes in various events. Various events and programmes are held with the support of students from the Psychology Department and Extension Activities.
The Department takes pride in its collection of materials utilised for teaching students how to conduct and interpret various psychological assessments in the areas of Intelligence – Memory, Aptitude, Personality and Career tests to name a few. The equipment is constantly updated with the latest additions in the field. Post graduate students learn how to administer and apply psychological tests in Counselling related fields and in organisations, which adds substantially to their range of professional skills.
